THE CALL OF THE WILD

“THE PATTERNS AND MARKINGS ON WILD ANIMALS CAN MAKE A DRAMATIC IMPACT IN AN INTERIOR. AS SEEN IN THESE PAGES,
ARTIST MICHELLE DECKER CREATES MURALS AND CANVASES USING HER OWN WILDLIFE PHOTOS AS INSPIRATION.”

ANIMAL SPIRIT

“BY CAPTURING AN ANIMAL’S HIDDEN SPIRIT WITH CAREFUL ATTENTION TO DETAIL, ARTIST MICHELLE DECKER HAS BROUGHT THE WILD BACK TO LIFE ON COUNTLESS WALLS – WITH PLASCON PAINTS, OF COURSE.

After completing a diploma in graphic design, working as an art director in advertising for several years and later focusing her talent on murals, this multifaceted artist now has the ability to capture the secret essence of an animals soul to such an extent that it gives one goose bumps.

‘Thanks to my background, I have a keen eye for perfection, and for me, the beauty of an animal lies in its detail,’ Michelle explains.

She says she has always been enthralled by the raw beauty found in the animals that grace the African landscape and, after spending some time in the bush, this seemed like a natural subject for her art. When on an excursion she looks for that perfect moment – two zebras playfully caressing each other, leopards lazing under a tree, or a giraffe enjoying its
breakfast – and captures it on camera. ‘When planning my next painting, I go through my photographs and look for a shot that has something magical about it – the look in the animal’s eye, the light on its face, or the texture of its skin or the patterns on its fur.’
Wether her wildlife wonderland is created with a series of canvases on a wall, or a large mural so life-like one expects to feel the velvet texture of the leopard’s fur, Michelle’s work is attracting much attention.

The result: she has succeeded in bringing wild animals into the modern home in a way that their character and beauty can be fully realised and appreciated.”
